The Transport minister says he's exploring the idea of having ferries or cable cars run between the south shore and the island of Montreal.
"We have to be open-minded," says Minister Pierre Moreau. "We have a lot of construction that will go on in Montreal, and we have to see what is possible."
He says the waters near the West Island are too shallow for a ferry, but one could run from the shore near Pie IX to Longeuil.
Theorically, cable cars could also run above same waters, and take people directly to the Pie IX or Viau metro stations.
And, Moreau says cable cars could also run near the Mercier bridge, or the Louis Hippolyte Lafontaine tunnel.
The minister says he's asked the AMT and the ferry agency to examine the scenarios.
"Montreal is an island. Reaching an island by boat makes some sense to me."
